The concept of work-life balance is complete nonsense. It perpetuates the idea that work and life are two separate entities, forcing us to choose between “life" and “work." But this is not only unrealistic—it's utterly flawed.

Why Work-Life Balance is a Myth

<h3>Integrating Regular Breaks</h3>
<p>I take breaks regularly throughout the day because I work intensely during my work periods. I typically work in 20-30 minute slots, followed by a 5-10 minute break. This rhythm has become very effective for me, as I have found it challenging to maintain full concentration for longer than 30 minutes. Conversely, working in shorter intervals isn't practical, as getting entirely focused takes a few minutes. During the preceding break, I prepare for my next "work sprint" and set a goal for what I want to achieve in that time. I decide whether to work for 20 or 30 minutes, depending on the task.</p>
<p>The exception to this rule is meetings. When I am invited to meetings, I have limited control over their duration. However, when I organize meetings, I try to ensure enough time for breaks and logistics between them. This means scheduling 30-minute meetings for 25 minutes and hour-long meetings for 50 minutes. This approach allows brief pauses or transitions, even on days packed with back-to-back meetings. Admittedly, I don't always succeed, but I strive to follow this practice as much as possible.</p>

<p>It's essential to have a brief change of perspective, no matter how short the break is. I consciously acknowledge that it's break time and take deep breaths with my eyes closed. I try to let go of all thoughts and become aware of myself. If I find it challenging to relax, I distract myself by reading something, reciting affirmations, and focusing on self-awareness.</p>
<p>This constant "return to oneself" is the most crucial measure for self-regulation. Of course, this requires knowing who you are, what you want, or at least where your center is.</p>

<p>I have regular "workations," as I call them. These are periods when I go to places that inspire or interest me. This change of location also provides a shift in perspective. I receive new and different impressions, which I consciously observe and absorb. I also adjust the work ratio to conscious leisure time, spending more time on private or leisure interests. I always continue reading or studying specific books or materials. While this doesn't match the traditional vacation concept, it has the same rejuvenating effect for me.</p>
